Up to 75 percent of the net income from each domestic Affiliate Race stays in the local community to fund breast health education, breast cancer screening and treatment projects.

Brief Summary of Priorities

Drawing from outcome-based information from the Komen Central Valley Community Profile, and other local and national studies, the Central Valley Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure® has identified the following priorities for its 2012/2013 Community Grants Program:

  1. Projects focusing on screening for all underserved/underinsured.
  2. Projects focusing on culturally appropriate breast health education, screening, treatment or support services for the following underserved groups: African American women, Hispanic women, Asian/Pacific Islander women, Middle-Eastern women, Native American women, young women in their teens and twenties, women who partner with women, women with disabilities, and monolingual women.
  3. Projects focusing on culturally appropriate support services for breast cancer survivors.
  4. Projects focusing on needs of breast cancer survivors that are not covered by medical insurance – lymphedema treatment, prostheses, cosmetic needs, etc.
  5. Projects focusing on supporting appropriate and effective palliative and/or hospice care for women with breast cancer once treatment is no longer warranted.
